The Girl Behind the Camera

The Girl Behind the Camera

Welcome everybody!

I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally be launching Nostalgia Studio! The past few months have been a whirlwind of writing and editing as I prepared to throw myself to the wolves. Nonetheless, I’ve done my research and put in the work, and I am ready start this new chapter of my career.

Art and design have played a huge role in my life for as long as I can remember. I actually ran a pretend fashion design company when I was little called Sam’s Worldwide Designs. My grown-up alias was Josephine Samantha Flowers (my apologizes to Andy Flowers’ real wife). I designed an entire catalog, complete with drawings, a client list, fake checks, and everything…the whole nine yards. As you can see from the drawings below, I had quite the imagination…

It wasn’t until high school, when I began taking photos for the yearbook, that I started to seriously think about what I wanted to do with my life. I moved to Mobile after graduation to study graphic design and studio art at Spring Hill College. The knowledge I gained at Spring Hill has proven itself invaluable, and I wouldn’t trade my time there for all the treasures in the world. I gained an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of art and design, studied photography, painting, drawing, and graphic design, and tons of other interdisciplinary courses like philosophy and religion. Not only was I trained to be an artist and designer, I was trained to be a citizen of the world. A liberal arts education makes quite the difference when it’s time to actually join the real world..

My life changed when my sisters started having children. I’m the youngest, so I never had any little brothers or sisters. I didn’t think it was possible to love something as much as I love my precious niece and nephews. They are my FAVORITE subjects. I’ve been photographing them since before they were born. They’re the real reason I picked up the camera in the first place.

I’m very passionate about children and art, so this venture feels very natural. For me, photography doesn’t feel like work. I think that’s what it’s all about–doing what you love. Anyway, I just wanted to take some time to introduce you to the girl behind the camera. As you get to know Nostalgia Studio, let me know if you run into any problems with the site or would like to share some feedback. I want to get to know my clients. You know, have you over for a glass of wine sometime. I can’t believe I’m finally doing this…it’s been a long time comin’! Keep in touch!

Yours truly,

kimsig
